AWARD CEREMONY FOR THE GERMAN AFRICA PRIZE AT THE FIRST NATIONAL CONVENTION OF WOMEN FOR PEACE IN CAMEROON
On 30 November 2023, the German Foundation for Africa awarded the German Prize for Africa to a platform that brings together more than a thousand women from nearly 77 associations within the First National Convention of Women for Peace in Cameroon.
The group was represented by Sally MBOUMIEN, founder and director general of COMMON ACTION FOR GENDER DEVELOPMENT (COMAGEND), Esther ONAM, director of the non-governmental organisation REACH OUT CAMEROON, and Marthe WANDOU, founder of the association ACTION LOCALE POUR LE DÉVELOPPEMENT PARTICIPATIF ET AUTOGÉRÉ (ALDEPA).
The well-attended ceremony was presided over by Mrs GÖRING-ECKARDT, Vice-President of the Bundestag, in the presence of H.E. Mr NDOCKI Victor, Cameroon’s Ambassador to Germany, Mrs USCHI EID, President of the German Foundation for Africa, representatives of various ministries and organisations, and Cameroonians from the Cameroonian diaspora in Germany, who had come to support their compatriots.
The German Foundation for Africa works to implement the guidelines of the German Federal Government’s Africa policy. It also aims to convey a different image of Africa to the German administration and the German public.
Since 1993, the Foundation has awarded the annual German Africa Prize to outstanding personalities from the African continent.
