BANGANGTÉ – BERLIN CHARLOTTENBURG COOPERATION
From April 8 to 18, 2026, a delegation from the Commune of Bangangté (Cameroon), composed of ten young people aged 14 to 21 and five supervisors, carried out an exchange visit to Berlin as part of the cooperation partnership between the Urban Commune of Bangangté and the Borough of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf.
This project, initiated with the support of the Embassy of Cameroon in Germany, is part of a dynamic aimed at promoting intercultural youth exchange, fostering harmonious coexistence, and strengthening decentralized cooperation between the two local authorities. It follows a first exchange held in April 2025, during which young Germans were welcomed in Bangangté and Bangoua.
Upon their arrival in Berlin, the Cameroonian youth were received by the Cameroonian Embassy and then taken to the Town Hall of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, where their host families from the district were waiting to accommodate them for the entire duration of the stay.
The program was rich and varied. Participants took part in music workshops with the City West Music School, urban gardening activities, and intercultural meetings with young people from Berlin. Music rehearsals and performances fostered creative expression, cultural dialogue, and mutual learning. The municipal green space services also contributed to educational activities related to urban planning and beautification.
The young visitors also toured a training school for public gardeners, learning about local policies regarding green space management and urban beautification implemented by the municipality of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf.
This program aims to strengthen environmental awareness, promote cultural education, and sustainably consolidate the partnership between the two cities with a view toward local development and youth exchanges.
Mr. Legrand de Bangoua accompanied and supervised the delegation throughout the stay, ensuring activity coordination and logistical follow-up in collaboration with the German partners.
A highlight of the visit was the official reception of the delegation at the Cameroonian Embassy in Berlin on April 14, 2026, in the presence of representatives from the Town Hall of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. On this occasion, His Excellency the Ambassador welcomed this exemplary initiative and recalled that the Commune of Bangangté serves as a pilot project for decentralized cooperation, intended to inspire similar partnerships between Cameroonian and foreign local authorities.
This visit thus provided a significant human, cultural, and educational experience for the young participants, while strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between Bangangté and Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf.
