CAMEROON EMBASSY IN BERLIN HOSTS SCREENING OF DOCUMENTARY “KAMERUN: DES MURS, DES TRACES, UNE HISTOIRE”
Berlin, 7 August 2026 – The Embassy of the Republic of Cameroon in Germany hosted, on Friday 7 August 2026, the screening of the documentary film “Kamerun: des murs, des traces, une histoire” (Kamerun: Walls, Traces, a History), directed by Cameroonian journalist and documentary filmmaker George Alain NGAMOU, in his presence.
Produced in French with English subtitles, this historical documentary retraces the traces of the German colonial presence and domination in Cameroon and offers a reflection on memory, heritage and the transmission of Cameroonian history. The choice of English subtitles also serves to broaden access to an international audience.
The screening brought together diplomats, students, foreign journalists as well as members of the Cameroonian community. It formed part of an effort to promote Cameroon’s history and memory, particularly through the lens of the traces left by the German colonial period.
The screening was followed by a particularly rich exchange with the director. The discussions focused on historical sources, the transmission of memory and the need to raise greater awareness of the different dimensions of Cameroonian history.
A marked interest in knowledge of Cameroon’s history
The exchanges highlighted the interest aroused by the documentary among the audience and, in particular, among Cameroonians in the diaspora. Several contributions testified to a real need for knowledge and for the transmission of historical understanding, especially to younger generations.
The meeting also stressed the importance of raising greater awareness of Cameroon’s history in all its depth and diversity, including the historical, cultural and social realities of the country’s different regions, which are often still insufficiently documented or known to the general public.
Through this screening, the Embassy thus intends to contribute to the dissemination of Cameroonian historical and cultural heritage, to the transmission of memory and to dialogue on issues relating to colonial history and its contemporary legacies.
The success of the exchanges that followed the screening confirms the value of pursuing this type of cultural and scientific initiative, which offers spaces for reflection, transmission and dialogue between Cameroonians, Germans and other audiences interested in Cameroon’s history.
