30TH ANNIVERSARY OF CAMFOMEDICS E.V. ASSOCIATION, OCTOBER 4-5, 2024, IN HANOVER

The German-Cameroonian Medical Society, abbreviated as CAMFOMEDICS e.V., primarily composed of doctors, pharmacists, dentists, and healthcare and paramedical professionals of Cameroonian origin in Germany, celebrated its 30th anniversary on October 5, 2024.

The Cameroonian Embassy in Berlin was present at this significant jubilee through its Cultural Service.

Since its founding in 1994 by Cameroonian medical students, the association has been dedicated to supporting Cameroonian-origin students in general medicine, dental medicine, and biomedical sciences in Germany, as well as promoting the health of populations in both Germany and Cameroon. Over the years, CAMFOMEDICS e.V. has led awareness campaigns, training programs, free medical care, and numerous other activities that have had a daily impact on the health of targeted populations. Many projects have been initiated, implemented, and continue to this day.

This year, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of its creation, CAMFOMEDICS e.V. organized a symposium on preventive medicine on October 5, 2024, in the city of Hanover. The event was preceded by free consultation sessions offered on October 4, 2024, by various specialists to the African diaspora in Germany. The symposium brought together around fifty participants, most of whom were healthcare practitioners or medical students, to listen to and share experiences with experts in this critically important field of global public health.

Attendees were treated to high-level presentations covering diverse areas such as gynecology, cardiac surgery, cardiology, radiology, pediatrics, immunology, dental care, emergency medicine, and more. The various speakers provided valuable insights into the importance of prevention for our health, emphasizing its role in early disease detection, cost minimization of healthcare, quality of life improvement, and even mortality reduction.

On this occasion, a doctor from a hospital in the North-West region, which collaborates closely with CAMFOMEDICS e.V., was also present and highlighted the benefits of telemedicine between the association’s doctors and the hospital teams, which has already saved lives.

The next interdisciplinary CAMFOMEDICS e.V. symposium will be held in Tübingen on October 4, 2025, with the main theme being “Oncology and Neurology.” A call for contributions has already been launched on the association’s website, and interested practitioners and researchers can submit their project proposals by no later than February 28, 2025.
