PROMOTING CAMEROONIAN LITERATURE: SECOND EDITION OF THE LITERARY CAFÉ AT THE EMBASSY OF CAMEROON IN BERLIN

As part of its cultural diplomacy initiatives, the Embassy of Cameroon in the Federal Republic of Germany hosted the second edition of the Literary Café on March 25, 2025, at its premises in Berlin. The event aimed to showcase the richness of Cameroonian literature and introduce Cameroonian authors to German and international audiences.

Centered on bilingualism and intercultural exchange, the gathering featured two distinguished Cameroonian writers:

  • Professor Eugène EBODE, Chairholder of African Literature and Arts at the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, who presented his latest novel, Zam Zam (Gallimard, 2025), a historical fiction following the story of a Tikar princess while exploring connections among African peoples.

  • Dr. Priscillia MANJOH, lecturer at the University of Wuppertal and winner of the 2023 Mont Cameroun Literary Grand Prize, who shared excerpts from her novel Angri (2023), a compelling narrative about struggles and solidarity in a fictional nation in turmoil.

The event was graced by prominent figures, including Her Excellency Mrs. Louise NZANGA RAMAZANI, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Congo to Germany, who praised the initiative for its Pan-African significance.

The discussion between the authors and the audience touched on various themes, including literary creativity, the role of African cultural heritage in Europe, and the challenges and hopes reflected in contemporary literature.

This second edition of the Literary Café reaffirms the Embassy of Cameroon in Berlin‘s commitment to cultural promotion and international literary dialogue.
