AFRICAN WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP: CAMEROON’S EMBASSY MOBILISES IN BERLIN
On the occasion of the International Day of the African Woman, the Embassy of Cameroon in Berlin hosted the conference “African Women for Justice & Impact” on 31 July 2026, organised by ASID Europe e.V.
Chaired by H.E. Mr. Victor NDOCKI, Ambassador of Cameroon to the Federal Republic of Germany, the meeting brought together over forty participants from diplomatic, academic, associative sectors and the African diaspora.
Held under the theme “(Post)colonial Heritage, Restitution, Global Justice and Political Participation of African Women”, the conference provided a space for exchange on the major challenges related to women’s leadership, historical justice and the place of African women in decision-making processes.
Among the highlights, Marie Nadège TSOGO MOMO presented the findings of her research on the links between restitution, memory and global justice, emphasising the need for greater involvement of African researchers in the study of German colonial archives. Maimouna OUATTARA (Move Global), for her part, recalled the essential role of women in transforming contemporary societies.
The roundtable bringing together Professor Bertin NYEMB, Jennifer KAMAU, Anab AWALE and Maimouna OUATTARA addressed the issues of African women’s political participation, the obstacles to their representation, as well as their contribution to international debates on the restitution of cultural heritage, reparations and memory work.
The associations present also showcased their initiatives and commitment to women’s empowerment, intercultural dialogue and cooperation between Africa and Europe.
Through this initiative, the Embassy of Cameroon in Berlin reaffirms its commitment to promoting dialogue, academic cooperation and reflection on issues of memory, historical justice and women’s leadership, while strengthening ties between Cameroon, its diaspora and its international partners.
