THE DECENTRALIZED COOPERATION BETWEEN BANGANGTÉ AND BERLIN-CHARLOTTENBURG-WILMERSDORF: A DYNAMIC PARTNERSHIP

The decentralized cooperation between the commune of Bangangté (Cameroon) and the district of Berlin-Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf (Germany) continues its dynamic consolidation. Following the reception of officials from the German town hall on September 4th, it is now the turn of a Cameroonian delegation, led by the Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Bangangté, Mr. Gaby Sylvain FAH, and accompanied by His Majesty DJAMPOU TCHATCHOUANG ANICK JULIO, King of the Bangoua, Prince Debangoua Tchatchouang, and the Queen Mother, to undertake a mission to Germany within the framework of this partnership.

On September 12, 2025, the delegation was received in an audience by His Excellency the Ambassador of Cameroon to Germany, Mr. Victor NDOCKI. In his remarks for the occasion, His Excellency commended the seriousness and commitment demonstrated by the Bangangté town hall in implementing this project, recalling that this local authority was not chosen at random. He wished to salute its dynamism and encouraged its officials to be the pioneers of this type of decentralized cooperation, initiated by the Embassy and intended to gradually extend to other communes in Cameroon.

For his part, the Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Bangangté expressed his gratitude to the Embassy of Cameroon for this initiative focused on his city, emphasizing the importance of this support for strengthening international exchanges and municipal partnership.

This meeting is part of a series of exchanges marked by the participation of the Bangangté delegation in the Conference of Mayors from Germany and Sub-Saharan Africa, held in Gießen from September 8th to 10th, where they shared their experience in international cooperation and municipal partnership.

Beyond institutional aspects, this visit illustrates the vitality of municipal diplomacy, which aims to present the Cameroonian model of decentralization to German and international partners. In this context, traditional chiefdoms, as auxiliaries to the administration, play a central role alongside diasporas, true mobilization levers for the success of these initiatives.

The Bangoua grouping, one of the seven groupings of the commune of Bangangté, was chosen to illustrate this nascent cooperation due to the strong involvement of its communities and the massive support of its populations for this project. This exemplary partnership highlights the importance of exchanges between local authorities, while strengthening the historical and human ties between Cameroon and Germany.
